New ‘Planet of the Apes’ Movie in the Works, Is it a Another Reboot?

Ever since Disney made their historic purchase of the 20th Century Fox Film Studio and its library of films, Fans have waited on the edge of their seats to see at which franchise Disney would take a crack at first for the theatrical reboot and it seems like Planet of the Apes, is up to bat.




In a new article from The Hollywood Reporter. They are confirming that Wes Ball, The filmmaker behind the popular Maze Runner film series, Has been tapped to develop and direct a new Planet of the Apes movie.

This is pretty big, Because the last we heard about Planet of the Apes was at CinemaCon this year when Fox came out during the Disney presentation and essentially said that yes, Plan to the Apes along with alien and other franchises, are on the cards for our new cinematic interpretation.

 The original Planet of the Apes film starred, Charlton Heston, An astronaut who lands on the planet and discovers an advanced ape civilization ruling over primitive humans. In the final infamous twist of the film, He learns that he's actually been on earth. This whole time, Which was destroyed after an apocalyptic nuclear war. The most recent reboot of Planet of the Apes happened in 2011, With Rise of the Planet of the Apes, An origin story showing how the primates took over the earth that all culminated in 2017s.

 War for the Planet of the Apes directed by Matt Reeves. That film ended with kind of a tease at what's to come and the setup of what fans had expected of Planet of the Apes. At this point, THR says it's unclear whether this new planet Apes movie is set to be a full-on reboot or an extension of the previous film series, Where war ended at one point.

Wes Ball was set to tackle boom comics mouthguard before that project got shelved by Disney earlier this year after the budget. For that film ballooned to over a hundred million.
