Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san Anime Releases Globally on February 25th

Maiko-san chi no Makanai-san [a] is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Aiko Koyama. It has been serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine since December 2016, with its chapters collected in fourteen tankōbon volumes as of July 2020.

An anime television series adaptation produced by J.C.Staff is scheduled to premiere worldwide in February 25th 2021 on NHK World-Japan, followed by a Japanese broadcast on NHK Educational TV in fall of the same year.

As of March 2020, the manga had 1 million copies in circulation. In 2020, the manga won the 65th Shogakukan Manga Award for the shōnen category.

Synopsis -

Kyoto is home to many districts where young women work as geisha: entertainers who perform traditional songs and dance. Kiyo Nozuki is a teenager living in a small manor where a group of maiko—apprentice geisha—reside. She has always admired the geisha and originally moved to Kyoto in hopes of becoming a maiko. However, Kiyo discovers that she is not cut out for the job. Not letting it upset her too much, she decides to help her troupe using her strongest suit instead—become a caterer and cook them delicious meals to support them in their everyday lives!
